THE WORKING

How this calculator works

The arithmetic mean gives every entered value equal weight. Repeated values count separately. This tool does not calculate a weighted mean or remove outliers. A comma is a separator, so enter one thousand as 1000 rather than 1,000; use a dot for decimal values.

The formula

Mean = sum of all values / number of values
Minimum and maximum are the smallest and largest entered values.

A quick example

For 10, 20 and 30, count is 3, sum is 60 and mean is 20. The minimum is 10 and the maximum is 30.

How to use this calculator

  1. Paste 1–1,000 numbers without thousands separators.
  2. Separate values with commas, spaces or new lines.
  3. Calculate and check count and sum as well as the mean.

A few common questions

Are negative values allowed?
Yes. Signed values and decimals contribute normally to the sum.
Does a blank entry count as zero?
No. Separators and blank space are ignored; enter 0 explicitly to include zero.
Is this a weighted average?
No. Every value has equal weight.
